Theresa Carpenter Beames is an artist and media producer based in Louisville, Kentucky. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Western Kentucky University. Since graduation, she’s enjoyed a lengthy career as a producer/director/writer/editor working with local, regional and national clients.
Theresa is a self-taught artist with an interest in art history and contemporary art. She served nine years on the board of KMAC Contemporary Art Museum, including two years as President. The exposure to art and artists this provided, along with a trip to the 2022 Venice Biennale, ignited a desire to express her creativity beyond moving pictures. In the spring of 2021, Theresa began drawing between projects and now seizes every possible moment to cultivate her drawing habit. Each piece takes between 25 to 35 hours to complete.
Theresa’s drawings have been translated to textiles and paper products which are currently sold in the Shop at KMAC. Her art is hung in homes from Texas to New York and London. Additionally, her work was included in “Girl Crush” at Art Portal, curated by Rebecca Norton, Kris Thompson and Cynthia Norton and is participating in the upcoming “Mothering Me” show, curated by Marcia Holloway Ross, at The Floyd County Carnegie Library Cultural Arts Center. “You Turn Me On” at Capacity Contemporary Exchange is Theresa’s first solo exhibition.
Theresa is married to Ramsgate, England native, Roger Beames, and they are parents to daughter Ella Thomas Beames, a Bellarmine University senior.
